We receive many inquires from people who want to stop
by and pay us a visit. Of course, we'd love to meet you and your family! This is one of the reasons why we do what we
do. This is a place where we hope you will always feel welcome.
Michaelmas Farm is definitely a place for
community-based endeavors. It is also our home. As such, we are not always 'open' to the general public.
We strive to balance our home and family life with the clear direction of being present to the needs of our community.
The Best Times to Visit
In
order to to be able to give you our undivided attention and serve you best, we request that you plan your visit by:
- attending a program here, or;
- dropping
in on one of our regularly scheduled Open Visit Days during the season.
This will assure that
someone will be here to greet you and show you around. For the purposes of safety (for you, and for the animals), family
privacy, and also liability, we do not allow the general public to be on site without a staff member from Michaelmas
Farm.
We are also available by appointment.
In this case, we invite you to call or email us to schedule a time for a visit that will work for both parties. Don't
be afraid to call us on short notice or if you're just passing through! We'll do our best to accommodate you.
Bringing Animals to Michaelmas Farm
Due to the
animals already living here, as well as for biosecurity reasons, we request that you not
bring any of your own animals onto the farm at any time. Thank you!
Children
and Childcare
We love children and want them to feel at home here. It's one of the reasons
we do the work we do. In order for them to enjoy a safe, fun experience, we request that children be supervised
by an adult at all times while on site. Childcare is available for select programs. At other times, your assistance
is required.
Dress for the Weather...and the Manure!
Ashby is over 900 ft. above sea level and can sometimes be a bit unpredictable when it comes
to weather. The local joke is that Ashby has its own weather pattern. The most accurate weather forecasts seem to be
through the National Weather Service. You may want to check the forecast before you come. During the colder months and in the evening, an
extra layer doesn't hurt.
In any case, we always suggest that visitors bring good
footwear appropriate to wearing to a place where activities may include working, gardening, walking
through mud, wandering through brush (or other thorny realities), and, of course, the very real possibility of stepping in
some chicken or other manure on occasion. Wearing open-toed shoes is not the best idea, and we strongly recommend that children
do not run barefoot (as wonderful as that is) while here, as our free-ranging chickens may also find one's toes
a curious delight.
